Our Camp
The Kalypso Training Camp is located in a very scenic and beautiful location at Suryanelli, near Munnar. The camp is at an altitude of more than 5000 feet, surrounded by tea gardens and cardamom plantations and overlooks the Western Ghats hill ranges.
The Camp has sixteen cottage tents, common bathrooms and a sheltered gazebo (for dining and discussions). The tents are spacious enough to accommodate three participants. Bathrooms, separate for ladies and gents, have provision for hot water, and toilets are western style.
The camp is accessible from Kochi, Madurai, Dindigul and Coimbatore. The distance to Suryanelli and approximate traveling time (by tempo traveler) are as follows:
- Dindigul 130 km 3 to 3 ½ hours
- Madurai 130 km 3 to 3 ½ hours
- Kochi 152 km 4 ½ to 5 hours
- Coimbatore 192 km 5 ½ to 6 hours
It is preferable to utilize smaller vehicles like tempo travelers (rather than buses which take longer driving time due to the ghat roads).
Electricity: The Camp has electric connection. However, being a camp, the lighting is minimal. Therefore, personal torches are essential.
Communication: The camp has no land line connectivity. The area has mobile coverage of all major networks like Idea, Vodafone, BSNL and Airtel.
Food: Excellent Indian cuisine (South Indian & North Indian)
Water: 20-Litre bottled water for drinking.
Medical Cover: -The Harrisons Malayalam Hospital at Suryanelli is about 15 minutes by jeep from the Camp. First aid bag is available at the site.
Weather: The weather is likely to be pleasant during the day, cool in the evenings and cold at nights. As with all hill stations, occasional light showers are possible. The day temperature could be around 24 degrees while the night temperature may fall below 15 degrees. Unpredictable variations and possible winds can make it colder on an odd day.
